Lab Safety Poster - My First Ace
My first Science ACE was on lab safety poster. In my primary school, things were much simpler and I had never encountered this before, hence I finished the Ace based on primary school standard. Moreover, I did not have a colour printer at home then, hence could not print poster out. So, I drew up a miserable poster which I thought was OK. When I handed it up to Ms Chia, I saw many other pupils' work and was amazed at how much effort they had put in. I was not surprised after I was only awarded one Ace point. I vowed to put in more effort in the next ACE on Term 3.

Digestive System- My Second Ace
This is my second Science ACE which I did with Marcus. We did it for more than six hours straight. But, to our disappointment, we only got 3 Ace points. I guess our diagram was too small and we had too much word input. But it's not all about scoring points, it is also about the learning experience. After seeing the poster, I still feel that six hours of effort was worth it.

For HCI Projects Day, we chose Category Three - Invention. We invented a softball bat which would help beginners correct their batting. The sweet spot (i.e. the best part to bat with) for the bat is the tip of the bat. That part would have the most kinetic potential energy and hence, will hit the ball furthest. We modified the training bat to optimise this theory by colouring the sweet spot of the bat.

The modified bat would:
  • Enhance precision
  • Teach beginners to use certain part of the bat to bat differently
  • Reinforce technique
  • Condition swing, muscle memory thus making the swing natural
  • Improve confidence thus reducing hesitations and thus less mistakes
As the ball contacts the bat, a mark would be formed. To remove the mark, gently squeeze the plastic cover. This Video would show the actual bat and how to remove the mark.

Our project got into Finals and I think it's due to the hard work and vital thoughts we put in. I hope we would maintain like this next year..
